About Reverend Jody J. Harrison
After 25+ years in government, political campaigns, non-profits and the corporate world, I felt called to ordained ministry: not easy for a divorced and remarried middle-aged woman in Texas. After seminary, my ministry continued in Roanoke, Virginia as a youth and children’s minister in a church. Later, I returned to hospital chaplaincy. In chaplaincy I provided pastoral care and learned of other’s spiritual journeys. I have been blessed to spend time with Native American communities and learned some of the spiritual beliefs of: Navajo and Jemez in New Mexico and the Lakota Sioux in the Dakotas.
I was ordained to the Gospel of Ministry by Calvary Baptist Church in Roanoke, Virginia and endorsed by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship as a hospital chaplain. My hospital residency was completed at Children’s Health and Texas Scottish Rite hospitals in Dallas. Chaplaincy was primarily in trauma: emergency, pediatrics, neo-natal intensive care and psychiatric units. I also served as a Travis County victim counselor for those seeking protective orders.
My education includes: a Bachelor of Arts from Southwest Texas State University, a Masters of Divinity from the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest and 8 units of Clinical Pastoral Education from: Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Roanoke Memorial Carilion Hospital in Virginia and Texas Scottish RITE and Children’s Health Hospitals in Dallas, Texas.
My husband Tom and I currently live in Austin with our beloved “rescued” Corgi – an 11 year old fur-baby. We have a blended family. Our son and his family, and my sister live minutes away. Our daughter and her family live in Colorado. We are blessed with 3 grandchildren. Extended family members are mostly, as we are, Texas Aggie fans.
